What you are looking at is a supposed pickle-board court and the associated amenities block.
It's the hair-brained idea of someone in the upper management of the Palm Lake organisation who thought that pickle-board courts were the best thing to happen since sliced bread was invented.
As a result, it was apparently decided that the residents of the new, luxury resort at 2 Orion Drive (the one with the Taj Mahal clubhouse) should have a court but that it would be located at 1 Orion Drive - the original retirement resort.
We can't go over to their facilities but it would appear that it'll be perfectly okay for them to wander across and share this fiasco with us.
We residents were not asked if we'd like a court.
There had been some mention in conversation about it but nothing formal until we received an email advising that our pathway access through what we know as "the Forest" would be blocked due to the area becoming a construction site. That was over nine month's ago.
The effect of making this entire area a construction site, instead of running a line of mesh fencing down the western (left-hand) side of the footpath, has been to prevent pedestrians and mobility-scooter users from accessing the gate and the external public footpath at the other end.
This, in turn, has meant that mobility-scooters now have to revert to using the main resort entrance and then travel along the bitumen until they are able to move onto the public concrete footpath.
So mobility-scooterists are back to risking their well-being on a public roadway and once again face the possibility of another incident occurring similar to that which happened several years ago before the public footpath was constructed.
This project is dragging on and on for no good reason and aged pedestrians and mobility-scooter users are at risk of injury.
This is a blatant indication of the utter disregard that Palm Lake executive management have for we residents.
They just don't care.
